Thats not true mate, I am well over the 1k, I think, 1k is only about just over half a mile so 2k must be just over a mile and I'm sure I am about a mile and a half away from the cabinet, actually I have just checked google map to the cabinet and I am 2.1 miles from the cabinet, and I get speeds of 27500kbps. So I cant see thats the truth really.
this is annoying information as i am about the same and cannot order infinity or "faster total broadband"
I've checked for you and doubled check the map and its correct, from mine to the corner of Aviation Lane were the green cab is, is 2.1m, according to google map. I'm not sure wether this makes any difference to your Infinity?. Maybe there is something different on my route, I cannot say really!. I can post a little pici if you want to confirm?.
Also just to confirm as well since being on Infinity for now 4 months, I can safetly say I have had not one problem with connection, touchwood, now I have said that, but yes never had to ring BT over a real bad problem. Never has it dropped or even loss of speed down to turning it off at night or power cuts etc.. So yes its been great so far, cannot complain!. 🙂
my problem is even though my cabinet is done i cannot order any sort of fibre as bt's system says no, my neighbour yards away can order "faster total bb" but the checker for my phone number says adsl only, i have measured on the map to my cabinet and i am a little over 2km
Are you sure you're connected to a cabinet and not directly to exchange?

is there nothing that can be done? after reading posts of other people on long lines getting quite good speeds im annoyed..

They normally reply by email or phone directly to you within 3 working days they will take personal ownership of your problem until resolved and will keep you informed of progress
They are a UK based BT specialist team who have a good record at getting problems solved

I know how you feel, I live in an URBAN area and I'm lucky if I get 1mb. I live in a area which is surrounded by exchanges but all of which are so far away (so I live in one of the worst urban areas in the north east of England for Internet). I have no option for BT infinity because my cabinet has not been enabled, all of which around me have been but for some reason I was left out. This means houses around 50 meters away get speeds of around 30mb while I'm stuck with 1mb. I sure hope open reach comes to upgrade my cabinet soon as there are SO MANY things I'm missing out on such as simple video streaming, if its not done by the end of this year I will be completely screwed. I like to play video games but the increasing of size of them means that it can take days of constant downloading to just download them, don't even mention the updates for programs and resources.
I have a feeling if they never upgrade it my house price will drop considerably as most housing around me have FTTC 😞
