Hi @fibre-hobo @rikthemix and @Simon442 sorry you are having a problem with your devices connecting with the hub. I've sent you all a Private Message with details on how to contact the Mod team and we'll be happy to help you with this.
Cheers
John
You can not separate the bands on a Smart Hub2, you should be able turn them off however,
Can someone explain to me (again) why this thread has been marked Solved?
The recent firmware upgrade has deflected from the original issue. This piece of hardware is still incapable of doing what just about every other consumer grade product can.. separating channels is pretty basic. WHERE IS IT!?
The issue isn’t fixed either, still no communication for me on my devices between channels last time I checked.
Wanting a secure and reliable home network, I never originally planned to stick with the ISP provided kit anyway but it just worked surprisingly well for the 6 months until this issue. Now I think it’s time to invest in decent networking kit.
@lifeonmars Yes, I know I can turn off one of the bands and I did turn off the 2.4GHz band until I realised my old ASUS Laptop and Chromecast can only work on 2.4GHz*! The problem I have is that if I want to play Spotify over a Denon system, my Phone will be on 5GHz and the Denon seems to prefer 2.4GHz even though it can do both. The result is you can’t play Spotify over the Denon system because the Phone can’t ‘see’ it, which is something the previous Smart Hub was able to do.
It was really easy to set up when you could separate the channels and force your WiFi enabled equipment to always join one or the other bands. Removing this most basic function has fouled things up for a lot of people - whether they realise it yet or not.
My hope is that the updated Firmware will allow devices on different bands to communicate as if they were both on the same band like previously. Time will tell, I’m just waiting for the update.
* - I bought a 5GHz USB WiFi Dongle for the ASUS and that has overcome that particular problem but it’s not possible when your Google Chromecast is only 2.4GHz compatible.
