I should have clarified why I'm after a new firmware. I'm currently using Sonos speakers which from reading elsewhere seem to be affected with the 2.4 GHz v 5 GHz issue. We use iphones to access Sonos but for the last month or so, we keep losing connection . A restart of the hub helps for a little while but we soon lose connection a while after which makes it difficult to turn off ceiling speakers!

But still..... The question goes unanswered as to what specific technical legitimate reason why this feature has been removed.

Quick update - since posting BT downloaded the new Firmware to my router. Quick reboot and then re-enabled the 5Ghz network. Waited for devices to connect to the 5Ghz network and then tried printing from a device connect on this network to the printer on the 2.4Ghz network and it worked fine. Thanks!
