2nd home hub 5, Infinity still keeps disconnecting frequently

Hello all

(update on earlier posts)

I had Infinity 1 installed last week. Frequent line disconnections and wifi dropouts. BT sent me a new HH5.

WiFi now OK I think - I switched off auto channel selection and I _think_ that helped.

However - I am still getting loads of line drops - several per day and sometimes it only stays up for an hour.

Please can someone look at the diag print and logs and tell me what I should do next? I'm loath to contact BT again as I suspect they'll just send another HH5. I'm plugged into the master socket, all internal wiring disconnected.

The longest the line's been up for is about 24 hours, and when it's up it works fine i.e. I'm measuring about 36Mbit/s download speed.

Ideas gratefully received, thanks

Re: 2nd home hub 5, Infinity still keeps disconnecting frequently

is it possible to connect to the test socket instead of the master socket?

have you tried quiet line test to check for line noise?

Re: 2nd home hub 5, Infinity still keeps disconnecting frequently

yes I've tried this with the test socket, same result (I ran it for 2 days)

what do the figures look like to you?

Re: 2nd home hub 5, Infinity still keeps disconnecting frequently

I'd be quite happy to replace the BT HH5 with a router/VDSL modem from a different vendor - has anyone tried this and is it likely to help me?

Re: 2nd home hub 5, Infinity still keeps disconnecting frequently

Hi

I had two months of this myself. The good old "PPP LCP Send Termination Request [User request]". Very annoying as it not only downed the connection, but all wireless/wired devices would lose their DHCPd addresses. After several engineer visits where nothing could be found to be wrong and two replacement HHs (A and B), the same thing was happening. Gave up in the end and bought a TP LINK W9980 to replace the HH. Since then the W9980 has not missed a beat - been up for over 3 weeks. Still noticed one or two line drops but the router stays up and the devices maintain their IPs etc. The W9980 isn't as fancy/feature rich as some of the more expensive VDSL router/modems but at less than £70, you can pretty much plug in and forget and chuck the HH in the bin or just put it in the corner and poke fun at it.

Re: 2nd home hub 5, Infinity still keeps disconnecting frequently

excellent, thanks VirtualEntity

so you think that the "PPP LCP Send Termination Request [User request]" is related to the BT hub (or its interaction with the exchange or something upstream) rather than telling that there's a problem with the line?

I don't want to drop £65 on a TP 9980 and then discover that it's actually a problem with the last mile.

I would dearly love to put the HH5 in the bin though...

Re: 2nd home hub 5, Infinity still keeps disconnecting frequently

Hi

Can't really answer that but there was clearly something funny with my line and the HH that Openreach/BT were unable to explain/fix. I was provided with an Openreach modem at one point to alleviate the issue and had that in alongside a separate Billion router. That stabilised things but I wanted a single box solution. It was at that point BT sent me a HH5 Type B to try. Within a few hours of plugging that in, I was getting the PPP errors again. It was at that point I'd had enough and bought the W9980. Guess you need to go through the normal process of getting a mod involved and maybe getting an engineer out but if it turns out "there's nothing wrong", ditch the HH.

I'm bored with this, I just ordered a TP 9980. I'll let you know what happens !

Re: 2nd home hub 5, Infinity still keeps disconnecting frequently

hi,

my connection is also repeatedly dropping.  I have a new HH5 on its way but not confident it will help as BT have pretty much blamed everything and anything for the last 2 weeks.

Please let us know how you get on with the TP9980

thanks !
