3rd party router to use with BT Infinity??

What 3rd party router can I use with BT Infinity??

Reason for asking is the infinity hub 2.0 is just a discrace, wifi keeps dropping, also I am a proud owner of a Nokia N8 which also causes the hub to crash when its conected and I have to restart before internet access is restored to everthing connected!

Re: 3rd party router to use with BT Infinity??

Any half decent cable modem will work.

Set to PPPoE Username: bthomehub@btbroadband.com password: not required and you shold be good to go.

Re: 3rd party router to use with BT Infinity??

Just make sure that the router in question has full Wireless-N support, Wireless-G (54Mb minus protocol overhead) will likely not be fast enough for Infinity if there's a fair amount of obstruction between the router and the computer.

Re: 3rd party router to use with BT Infinity??

yeah ill be getting a full wifi draft n 300mbps wifi router. my main pc and various other hard wired network devices are all linked via a gigabit switch to the router anyway, the wifi is just for my laptop and my nokia n8!

Re: 3rd party router to use with BT Infinity??

Can anyone confirm that you can connect with a tp router?

I have a Netgear DG843G at the moment, got firewall rules/port fowarding etc etc setup. So don't want to use bt's hub.

Also got a spare Draytek Vigor 2930 I'm thinking of using instead. Given it's draft N and can use WOL too.

Re: 3rd party router to use with BT Infinity??

As long as the router you wish to use supports PPPoE then you have no problem. Use your BT email and password credentials.

Re: 3rd party router to use with BT Infinity??

You dont need to use your email address and password to connect over PPPoE, simply entering bthomehub@btbroadband.com in the username field is all that is required and leave the password blank.
Cheers, Andy.

Thanks for the clarification, routers support PPPoE.
