Hello all,
After doing a BT based speed test I noticed that my speed was 3.9MB from the exchange to my house but only 2.8Mb from the test socket (all wired results)
So where has my 1 mb gone? I could really do with it!
Hope someone can help and thanks in advance.
Cheers
Mike
welcome to the BT community forum where customers help customers and only BT employees are the forum mods
in order for the forum members to help please can you post the adsl stats from your router may need to 'show detail' to get all stats (if hub enter 192.168.1.254 in your browser and navigate to adsl or use a-z, if netgear enter 192.168.0.1) and run btspeedtester (MAC users may have problems). when first test completes then run diagnostic test and post the results .
are you connected directly via a filter to the NTE5 master or test socket or to somewhere else? Is the master the only phone socket in your home?
Have you tried the quiet line test? - dial 17070 option 2 - should hear nothing - best done with a corded phone. if cordless phone you may hear a 'dull hum' which is normal
Someone may then be able to offer help/assistance/suggestions to your problem

Hello imjolly,
Many thanks for the incredibly swift reply. I couldn't find "show details" but hopefully the information below should help find the problem.

Connected directly to openreach main socket (horizontal split across the front) Only two wires connected to this socket, only one other phone socket in use which is plugged into house alarm. PC next to master socket and ethernet lead to router is 3ft long.
Only have cordless phone and slight noise on line.
Thanks in advance for your help.
Cheers

the stats page you were on should have a 'show detail' or something similar which will display more error information. is it possible for you to connect to the test socket and then repost new stats as this will eliminate and noise problems caused by your internal wiring
your conenction speed is 3.84mb with a download speed of 3.25mb which looks ok and better than your initial post
Hello john46, Thanks for the swift reply and offer of help, please see details below. Also more details when I answered imjolly.

have you moved to the test socket or have you just reset the router as connection time only 34min
Now plugged straight into test socket, results as below.
Thanks again.
