£7 p/m Line rental reduction - BT SCAM ALERT!!!

BT are being forced to offer many of us a Line rental reduction by OFCOM, I received my letter today.

But when I call them up i'm informed that if i accept this line rental reduction my call package will increase by £9.95 per month, so they would end up charging me more than i currently pay.

Surely the call plan should be unaffected by this line rental redution.

How can Ofcom allow this to happen.

SCAM ALERT!!!

Perhaps you can post the contents of this letter that supposedly turns a £7 reduction into a £2.95 increase

Ofcom & BT Agree new discount

The new discount is for customers who only have a standalone landline package.. I take it you only have a phone line no broadband ?

@DC2  Are you on BT basic?

I would also like to see how a £7 line rental reduction increases your monthly cost if you only have a landline and no broadband

Re: £7 p/m Line rental reduction - BT SCAM ALERT!!!

I'm on BT saver, so i've no broadband but i do have a calls package.  BT explained that if they discount the line rental (as directed to by OfCOM) then they will charge me full price for the calls package which is an incresae greater than the £7 discount.  The calls bundle should have nothing to do with the line rental, they are separate components.

easy solution is don't change from your existing package

Yes that is the easist solution, but you seem to be missing the point, why should i not get the line rental reduction and pay the current price for my calls package.  They are separate components.

Re: £7 p/m Line rental reduction - BT SCAM ALERT!!!

Hyperbole aside, because nothing is being forced. The providers and OFCOM have agreed to reduce Line Rental for customers.

BT Basic and BT [Home Phone] Saver customers are not standalone line rental customers as they already benefit from reduced call packages. So, the normal £18.99 line rental gets the £7 discount, packages that already include discounted call packages or allowances or features understandably don't.

So to follow your logic, BT do not make any money out of my discounted calls package, they sell that to me at a loss?

@DC2

do you pay £18.99 for your line rental? if not then you already benefit from a discount so can't see why you should get a further discount when you don't pay the full £18.99 line rental - cake and eat springs to mind
