ADSL bad ping from about 11pm

I have had perfect ADSL at my address for years. Usually get sub 10ms ping and 17mb download 1mb up.

Recenlty I have been suffering 300-400 ping late into the evening, 11pm onwards. Download speed also then fluctuates and is no longer consistant at 17mb. Upload becomes barely useable and reports at 0.1 on speed tests. I thought it was a crackling line problem which I called BT after doing the 17070 test and heard crackling, bt engineer came replaced some cables down the road, crackling gone. But 11pm and later and suddenly ping shoots up to 300-400ms. This is noticible in an online game as ping is displayed constantly, and it then becomes unplayable along with browsing and other apps noticibly slower. If i dont reboot the router the ping returns to normal by the next morning. If i reboot it sometimes ping goes back to normal, sometimes it doesnt and stays bad for a day or so.

I have a pretty refined network, netgear DGN3500 used soley as a modem for adsl2+ whcih has been solid for years, with wifi switched off, pluged into a couple of netgear gigabit switches (gs108 & gs110tp), rj45 cable round the house, and also a netgear Nighthawk R700 setup as an access point purely for wifi. When the connection goes bad, low ping lower speed, it affects anything plugged into a router, a switch or on wifi so its definitely the adsl not the network problem. The bt engineer kindly gave me his phone number but he says he has fixed the phone line ran tests its fine, and I have repeated 17070 quiet line test and no more crackling, he doesnt know what to do next.

Ive kept a brief log of the connection info from when I first noticed the problem. This is info cut out of the 192.168.0.1 netgear info page.

Re: ADSL bad ping from about 11pm

With your speed dropping that much and very high noise margin has your router been in dropping connection or have you been manually resetting trying to improve connection or a combination of both?

Re: ADSL bad ping from about 11pm

The router drops the connection, reconnects itself and is then at the high noise margin /bad connection stage. On various occasions I have spotted this be it 1 day later, or 1 hour later, and tried the reboot which usualy starts off connected at a perfect 20mbp /3db noise margin but shortly reverts back to 9mb or 3mb with high noise margin. So a combination
