ASUS DSL AC68U - CORRECT SETTINGS

Go to solution
Hi all
After 4 months of line seizures I believe I've nailed the BEST settings for BT INFINITY 1 (52MB) if using the Asus DSL-AC68U VDSL MODEM/ROUTER ... Give the following a try:

DSL modulation **** VDSL2
ANNEX Mode **** ANNEX B
Dynamic Line Adjustment (DLA) ENABLED
SRA (Seamless Rate Adaptation) ENABLED
G.INP (G.998.4) ENABLED

ADSL Settings

Stability Adjustment DISABLED
Rx AGC GAIN Adjustment STABLE
ESNP - STABLE
Bitswap ENABLED

VDSL Settings

VDSL Profile 30a MULTI MODE
Stability Adjustment DISABLED
Current SNR Margin: 6.2 dB
Rx AGC GAIN Adjustment STABLE
UPBO - Upstream Power Back Off. OFF
ESNP - Enhanced SNP. STABLE
Bitswap ENABLED
G.vector (G.993.5) ENABLED
Non-standard G.vector (G.993.5)ENABLED

So standard settings then?

Good post though for those who may not know how to set up this 3rd party router.

The ASUS default settings are different to what I've posted. I've manually altered each setting. Just by turning off the Upstream Power Back Off to **OFF** has greatly increased Upload bandwidth alone. Set to enabled by default.

I never mentioned default settings. You'll have to forgive me as I'm used to setting up 3rd party routers hence my use of standard.

Hope it helps others overall. I've conceded these are the best settings after all the DLM halting me to near dial up speed

Couple of issues here.

Annex Mode WILL always be A & checking the DSL log will show that.

UPBO should be set to Enabled as otherwise it can cause issues for other lines on the same cabinet & the ability to mess with this setting is probably one of the reasons Asus modem/routers will not be approved by Openreach. Whilst gaining a couple of meg on the upload a small loss on the download can be experienced.

It has been suggested elsewhere that OpenReach can or have blocked lines where this setting is being abused.

Hi, I am aware the ASUS has a known bug which reports ANNEX A within the DSL log but it should read ANNEX B (don't shoot me it's what I've discovered on various forums) .. also the issue with UPBO and disabling it causing issues for others in same locality would only be a concern if it was a ADSL connection which it isn't. I'm not an expert like you guys but I'm going with what I've learned this past 3 months regards INFINITY and the ASUS.

Please re-enable UPBO as it WILL cause problems for adjacent ADSL users and may result in your line being disconnected. Enabling SRA is pointless as Infinity doesn't support it, likewise vectoring unless you are one of the very few locations that have it.

Of course I'll switch it back on. Apologies I thought ADSL ran purely over copper through the street PCP and then again back to the local exchange via overhead copper telegraph wires and not through the Fibre DSLAM Cabinet?

Thank you.

Adsl and vdsl will share the copper cables on the distribution side of the pcp
