Activation charge moving from Sky Fibre to BT Infinity?

Hi,

When signing up for BT Infinity, it seems there is a £30 activation charge for the connection process.

As I already have Sky Fibre, which is based on the same Openreach underlying product, (as expected, and confirmed by this thread https://community.bt.com/t5/BT-Infinity-Speed-Connection/Moving-from-Sky-Fibre-to-BT-Infinity/td-p/9... the migration should just be configuration changes.

Does this mean I shouldn't have to pay the £30 charge?

Thanks

Michael

Re: Activation charge moving from Sky Fibre to BT Infinity?

The activation charge now seems to apply to all new customers taking out any Infinity package with the exception of Unlimited Infinity 2.  http://www.productsandservices.bt.com/products/broadband/packages?Infinity=yes

I don't see any exceptions for this charge but you could try asking the Options team 0800.800.030 who may be able to answer it.

I don't think ISPs have really sorted out the mechanics of FTTC migrations yet and I would be doubtful if this charge will be waived! The costs of taking over an existing line do not seem transparent either.

In the Sky forums ( also valid here I guess as well!) people are asking WHY Sky themselves keep charging £50 now they are fully self install!

I suppose somebody has to pay towards the engineer to visit the cabinet or the exchange.

I was  Smiley Sad (though I had Sky normal broadband - not fibre).

I signed up for the Infinity 2 wasn't charged either.

The migration went pretty smooth apart from the issues I am having with an unstable Broadband but that is being looked into.

It's not to say that it wasn't unstable when I was with Sky - I just never noticed

There is no activation charge for Infinity 2 Unlimited in any event!
