Alert for email

Is it possible to have a visual "alert" or banner on desktop or Ipad (or both) to advise arrival of an incoming email ?

Using Apple Mail on iPad or Mac then yes but not sure if its available on other mail apps.

You can set MS Outlook to give a sound on the pc; a notification also appears.

IPad is better though, as you can set an individual sound, and it’s better, above background noise.
