Am I being throttled by BT?

Hi All,

I have a general speed issue, when I complain about it to BT it gets fixed, for about a month then returns.  I had one tengineer come out and said he had swapped the ports at the exchange for me (Or something like that) and this lasted about 3 months, then like a switch went back to normal (im thinking someone swapped me back).

Any way the real issue is that in addition to the general slow speeds, I am also finding that at 4pm any and everyday my speed drops by to 1mb or under, I have even downloaded a big file from 3:45 and noticed as soon as it hits 4pm it drops, I can understand it dropping off "slightly" due to increased traffic but I can imagine everyone decides to use their internet at 4pm every day......

Can someone help me understand what is going on?  I have a fault open with BT on my line currently about this, but its been 3 days now and each day I have been told it will be fixed, Lies! but I am pleased that I am getting the call backs.

Re: Am I being throttled by BT?

Hi Welcome to the forums

If you post the full stats from your router

For homehub – type 192.168.1.254 into your browser

Navigate to ADSL Settings or use the A-Z at the top right of the home page and scroll down to ADSL Settings and click on it

Click on More Details and then post the full results.

also post the full results from http://speedtester.bt.com/

or http://bt.custhelp.com/app/answers/detail/a_id/9354/c/346,4740,5520 and post the results .

Have you tried the quiet line test? - dial 17070 option 2 - should hear nothing - best done with a corded phone. if cordless phone you may hear a 'dull hum' which is normal

Then someone here may be able to help and offer more advice.

Re: Am I being throttled by BT?

Your high noise margin is causing the slow speed. After 14 days of solid connection this should decrease but you can contact the mods to get this done quicker. Contact them through this link: http://bt.custhelp.com/app/contact_email/c/4951

Re: Am I being throttled by BT?

The DLM as well as a reasonably stable connection needs a reasonably low error count to reduce the target margin, no idea what the limit is but I know that in my case 20 days into the same connection and it still did nothing, mods are the best solution to get it set to a reasonable value.
