for the most reliable speedtest results they should be done with a wired connection as wireless is subject to to many errors

there is no relation to speed and the installation of infinity as the infinity installs are done at the street cabinets (new ones)and not at the exchange as is the normal adsl service a lift and shift is only done if there has been major problems with a connection and every other check and test has failed

Well I'm just puzzled how the connection speed can be all over the place since yesterday.  If you see just this morning alone, it makes no sense to me how the speed can be this erratic if there is no problem with the line.

your download speed will vary constantly depending on general internet usage and time of day which speedtest did you use for the speedtest results you posted as that can also differ from speedtester to speedtester

Using BB Max for all tests. Never had such a wide variation of speed in the preceding two years. I accept that speed will very at peak times during the day

try some tests using the BT beta test speedtest in comparison

yes i saw the one with the one BT beta test i was meaning a similar series of tests to those you had done with the bbmax tester to see if it showed the same sort of trend

Hi John,

 

Yes I have done a number of tests with the BT Speed test and the results reflect the BBMax results.  I always use BBMax because it is pretty consistent and I have been using this to monitor speeds for about 5 years now.  I can also tell you that I have run the speedtest both over my wireless network and also direct ethernet connection to the BT Hub.  Results are slightly lower over wireless but only by about 256 to 512 Kbps, so I conclude that as my speed drops by as much as 13 Mb it is not a wireless issue but more likely an exchange issue.  I have been speaking to BT BB today and they say they have tested the connection at the exchange ? And found a fault which they are dealing with BT wholesale about.  Call me cynical but I don't know if this will resolve the issue.  Let's hope so.

be interesting to see if there is a fault as that is becoming a script answer from the helpline
