Hi,
ive just received an automated call supposedly from BT saying that my broad band has been terminated and that I needed to press 1 for reconnection.
i didn’t press any digits and hung up.
when I dialled 1471 there was no number available.
is this another form of scam?
wanted others to be aware
my broadband seems ok!
Solved! Go to Solution.
Yes it is a scam.
Hi,
thanks for confirming. I will pass the message onto friends and family.
regards
We are now receiving these calls daily. How is it that they started three days after I reported a line error to BT and one day after the BT engineer replaced the BT cable to our house? Is someone in BT selling our data to scammers who then use the genuine problem as a reason for their call?
It does seem strange timing.
scary stuff really
Just had the same call this morning except when I did 1471 it said the caller was 01826 539470, can't find any info on that number though.

The number has been spoofed by scammers using VoIP systems.
The number range 01826 is actually a protected range and not actually used, so guaranteed to be faked.
Just had the same kind of call from 01532 621740. It was a plummy British voice asking me to press 9. It also quoted an 0800 number to call. I thought it sounded odd and afterwards I realised that one of the sentences was very poorly phrased. I think the recording was a “spliced” audio recording.

Hi, welcome to the forums.
As expected the number is one of the Protected range, and not currently in use - so guaranteed spoofed.
What was the 0800 number?
