Thanks gg, so the scam had been recorded and not answered live. I clicked on 1 so no problem?

Hi.

You were only responding to the 1571 service (click 1 to hear the message, 2 to save or 3 to delete) - nothing will apply to the actual context of the scam message.

Re: Automated scam message?

Thanks Guru,
Apologies to drag this one out.
I called 1571 and clicked on 1 to listen to the message. The scammer gave his warning message and asked me to click on 1 to continue my Broadband and landline or 2 to terminate the services.
I fell hook line and sinker by clicking on 1. That's when the BT automated voice came back with her initial directions, press 1 to listen, 2 to save etc.
That really through me Guru because I thought I had missed my chance to stay on line. I was tired just having arrived back from a long journey. I could have messed up BIG TIME if I had heard the message live. Cheers.

Has anyone been scammed yet after following instructions by the scam call. What is the scam? What is the aim of the scam?

If you respond, then they know there is a real person on the end, and will add you to a "suckers" list, and you will get even more calls, so just hang up and do not speak, or press any buttons.

They will also try to extract personal information from you.

Nothing to do with BT.

Sometimes these callers use non-existent area codes.  You would think that BT could add an option to their Call Protect service to automatically block such "impossible" calls!
