OK. Appreciate it is a worldwide problem....but rather than trying to "fix it" at the "Telecom Service Provider" end, why not encourage the multiple recipients of these scam calls (which quite frankly are completely unprofessional and recognisable as scam) to tell the scammers to **bleep** off and get a life. Eventually, they might get the message and give up!! Just a thought!
If it’s automated you can’t actually talk to anyone. If you go further with the call, you’ll just alert the scammers to a live active number which they’ll sell onwards, thus ensuring a lifetime of more scammers. As there are probably thousands of different scammers involved you’ll have your work cut out telling them off! Also, as so many people fall for the scams, they make literally millions out of it. I doubt that a few insults will deter them.
There not always automated calls I used to get both, one guy actually shouted at me for hanging up on him.
I was getting calls nearly every day for months, they must have got fed up as I haven’t had a call now for months, ( famous last words) 🤭
I got a similar "termination" phone call yesterday (07/05) around 13:00, then this morning somebody from "the technical services", then ten minutes ago (08/05 13:10) the same message as yesterday. I am told of a termination of service tonight and being asked to dial 1 for technical services or 2 for immediate termination.
I am very doubtful it is BT calling as I replaced my router beginning of March and entered a new contract for 18 (or 24) months then.
