BB Speed dropped to 288Kbps from 15 to 18Mbps

Hi

Over the last week I have noticed that my BB connection had been running really slow, some on line apps don't even work any more. So over the weekend I have done some investigation and found that my BB download speed has dropped from around 15 to 18Mbps to 288Kbps, upload speed has dropped from around 1.5Mbps to 488Kbps. All seem to start after the bad weather last week and a power outage in the village.

Done all sorts of tests etc at home, cables replaced, router replaced etc etc, nothing made any difference, still get the same speeds. So yesterday I tried to run the BT speed tester, but the speed is so bad it would not run, some couldn't see what the IP profile is on the line, so run the speed tester today from work, I know the reading for the line speed are wrong, but it lets me see what the IP Profile is configured on my line, pic below of the test results for my line number.

Now I can see that the IP Profile for my line is wrong (or default back to some default or something) and it explains why I am only getting 288Kbps on the ADSL. So posting this new post for info and also contacting BT via help to see if it can be corrected, not sure what the IP profile for the line should be thou as never had any issue with it since it was was installed many years ago now........ Any body any ideas what it should be for an Option 3 plan.....??

Cheers

Tim

Re: BB Speed dropped to 288Kbps from 15 to 18Mbps

the stats are confusing - are you on adsl broadband option 3 up to 20mb or on infinity?

Re: BB Speed dropped to 288Kbps from 15 to 18Mbps

BT Total Broadband Option 3, remember the Downloand and upload speeds achieved in the pic and during the test are via a work's internet connection as I can't run the tester at home due to the line being so slow. All I was looking for was the IP Profile for the line when I ran it at work this morning to check the IP Profile was correct, which its not. Would love to get infinity, unfortunatley thats years away for the village I live in Smiley Sad

Re: BB Speed dropped to 288Kbps from 15 to 18Mbps

Ah, the one thing I forgot to bring with me to work the stats from my router, I have before and after stats so will post those tonight or tomorrow depending on the connection when I get home.

Will try the btspeedtester again tonight and post results if I can get it to work, not looking likely thou as it keeps erroring out, I can post the nice error page saying error occured....Smiley Happy

Interestingly the Up to 24Mbps Speed Test (Beta) test does work, and shows the low speed, I'll post those as well for ref.

No issues reported at the exchange that I can find anywhere, its the Highley Exchange for ref.

Cheers

Re: BB Speed dropped to 288Kbps from 15 to 18Mbps

this looks like a banded profile due to drops in connection or you trying to resolve the problem by making may changes causing many resets of your connection

the exchange see all the drops/resets as a line problem and then normally increases the noise margin and drops your conenction speed to stabilise your connectiom.  If the drops continue then you end up in a banded profile - nothing to do with ip profile - and if your line remains stable 24/7 for 3+ days then the banding should release and your connection should improve.  If you get 3+ days and connection speed still at 288 then you need to contact the mods to get banding removed.

contact mods

can take up to 3 working days for mods to contact you

but only after you can show 3+ days stable connection

Re: BB Speed dropped to 288Kbps from 15 to 18Mbps

Hum, interesting, where are you seeing all these drops and resets in the above DSL stats......and shown above are due to the line dropping or exchange issues, I have not amened the configuration of the router for 6 months plus, and its on 24/7 unless i'm away. Yes the routers has been moved, cables change etc over this last weekend to eliminate any internal issues before posting this post and getting a call rasied after it started to only showed 288.....

I find it strange that the line is banded as up the point of the bad weather and power cut I was getting 16 odd meg and since power came back on 1.5 hour after it cut off I only get 288Kbps......

Will wait and see what happens..........
