Roughly every 24 hours, not at the same time of day, we lose broadband for around 5 minutes. We're on an ADSL+ connection and get 5meg broadband on a very stable connection with no other issues. The problem has been in our area for over 2 years now, and the local Openreach engineer says he's reported this type of outage countless times to BT for countless other customers, but BT simply don't want to get to the bottom of what's going wrong. Randomly the fault disappears and things go back to being reliable and stable again. BT has blamed everyhting in the past, yet it's clearly, by deduction, a problem with their system...
We don't lose the DSL connection to the exchange, it's like someone has switched off Broadband on the line, while leaving the connection there. It's like phoning someone who doesn't speak at the other end of the line. Very odd fault indeed.
Is there any way to get this solved once and for all, as it's been on-going now for over 2 years. BT says they need 3 people with the same problem at the same time before they will accept that it's something that their system is doing. That of course can't be true, and if it is, someone needs to change the rules !!
Any ideas how to get this fixed??
Yes, it affects WiFi and Lan connection. TP Link VR9000 router. If I log into it during the outage, the DSL connection is still present, but broadband has vanished. It's an issue at BT, as the Openreach engineer states, but even he has had no luck persuading BT to look into fixing the problem. Someone from BT must know what's going on here, and be able to fix it. It's not rocket science after all !!
I wonder if its DNS issues, as BTs DNS servers do seem to give problems?
Try changing the DNS server settings on the TP link so that they use Google public DNS of 8.8.8.8 and 8.8.4.4 and see if it makes any difference.
If the exchange is medium to large, then the ADSL will be coming from MSANs, which generally are very reliable. Some of the smaller exchanges are probably still using DSLAMs, which can prove troublesome if there is an issue on one card, which would affect all the customers on that card.
Thanks for the suggestion. Tried this but still got a loss of broadband at 8:15pm.
