Hello to the BT Community,
I’m posting this on behalf of my father.
We have an 8MB contract with you and are using a BT HomeHub v1.
We have NEVER achieved a consistent download speed over 60Kb. No it’s not a typo!
It's taken months of nagging to finally get my Dad to see just how much of a fool he is being taken for.
We carried out a speed test of our local area for providers, showing BT had the worst speeds by a long way - though someone a few doors down from us is achieving 1.5MBps. (I'd hate to think what contract they have to pay for to achieve this!)
Following this we decided to phone and get this resolved. One of your "engineers" told us to un-plug our HomeHub for a couple hours so they could perform a speed test. So after time had passed we plugged it all back in and nothing had changed, an hour later our Broadband light starts flashing amber and have not had internet access since. We now have an engineer coming out to us on Friday to attempt to sort all this for us.
Where do you get off on selling us an 8MB contract if you’re fully aware we can’t get anything close to that in our area?
What could be the cause of this? It has not suddenly happened; it has always been this slow.
56.6 KBps downloads are NOT acceptable in the 21st Century.
We may as well have stuck with Dial-Up if these are the speeds we are going to receive!!
Can someone please shed some light on what may be the cause of this?
I’m posting this from work and am not able to provide any speed tests as obviously our internet is completely down.

EDIT: Also, if I download a file I can see the download speed starting at 200Kb then immediately dropping down to 56Kb. Are we possibly being restricted?
If you post router stats and bt speed test then some one will try to help sort it

Our Broadband connection is down. Wireless is running.

No only available when connected
My broadband had slowed up dramaitically about 6 weeks ago..then after weeks of calling the helpdesk on a daily basis the speed improved vastly from both less than 1mbps up/down load to 6mbps download to 2mbps upload...it was great..now Im back with a crappy slow speed..
What is going on with such inconsistant speeds..why..why..why..
I reckon its the exchange overloaded on the copper wire system..oh and having a college inbetween me and the exchange does not help..and that about the same time when they started the new term and my speed went down..no such thing as a coincidence is there..
This may show if your exchange is overloaded
