BT Cloud 20.6.1 is the original replacement to the old desk-top style Cloud and the only one available (still). It 'lives' (for Windows users) in the Task Bar under the up arrow at the right of your screen (if your task bar runs along the bottom), together with all other partially hidden apps. The old style big box that launches with boot-up is no more. When you update (or load) the app it gives you no feedback at all that it is installed - you just have to look for the cloud icon. BT Cloud is also accessible (whether you have the app loaded or not) from a web-browser - and if you do have the app loaded you can launch the web page from that app. The 'desk-top' app works for some people, but not apparently others, but in general accessing via the web browser is more successful. All data stored before the change-over will be there (we are assured, and I have no evidence to dispute that) - but your back-up routines may have been turned off; so back-ups may have stopped. These can be turned back on again via the settings in the web browser. You can access stuff via your own pages on the BT site (though 'My BT').
Before Christmas if I attempted an installation it failed but constantly tried rendering my computer useless.
I can check old content is still there as I have the clod app on my phone which shows PC and phone backups.
many thanks, very helpful. would have been good of BT to advise the old desktop app. no longer working! I have found all my files exactly where you said in task bar cloud icon
I've tried to reinstall today, app says syncing one time meta data then closes itself after a minute, I've had enough now, can't even download from. The Web browser as the files in folders don't download to the same folders, really need a solution
Every day I get several emails about further posts on this subject. I click on them and read what the latest posts have to say. Yesterday I got 4 email messages with links looking just the same . But when I clicked on the link, I got the following message on the forum site

The messages were about posts largely from people whose posts I have read before including RKM, GeoffSmith and JamieandAngela. Does anyone know why that happened? Curiously I have read later posts and there seems to be no break in the numbering of posts that I can see.

I got the same message, but when I logged off and on again, the message did not appear again.

Black Folders
Richard's Windows Desktop (DESKTOP 1RR515T) is Empty; No - clicking on it shows that it contains the C folder with 8GB content last modified on 8 December 2020. It contains everything in the C folder on my PC but with nothing changed since 8 December. It therefore has a duplicate of everything in BT Cloud.
BT Cloud contains 6 original Folders and all of the original files. Yes
BT Cloud also contains 4 additional Folders with different names (added 1st Jan 2021). These Folders contain copies of some of the original files. Not quite right. On my PC those 4 folders are sub-folders of one of the original 4 folders. Rather than drop in the whole of the top folder, I dropped in 4 sub-folders that contain files that have been substantially updated since 1 December. So those 4 folders (which have the same names as they did originally) now duplicate what is already there in the original folder except that they contain files that have been changed since 1 December.BT Cloud also contains some additional individual files (added 1st Jan 2021 and a further 2 added on 8th Jan 2021). Yes but note that some of these again duplicate what was already there except that they have been changed since 1 December.
When you added (copied/moved) a couple of files from the 2021 Folders into the Original Folders they synced correctly. No - they do not sync at all. The system recognises that there is already a file of that name and simply adds the new file with (1) after its name. I expect if I did the same when the file had been further changed, it would put (2) after its name. So, in conclusion, there is still absolutely no syncing going on in my folders or files.
Thank you for your feedback. I attempted to create a structure, similar that described.
In Internet Explorer, below BT Cloud I had 3 Folders, but 2 of these are empty and 1 has a single Powerpoint File, as it is a Document. Interestingly this Document is the only file does not appear in an Album in the BT Cloud, but is there under Documents.
However, I created a New Album in Internet Explorer giving it the name China and I put a Photo File in it. I saw on my screen that syncing was occurring, but looking at BT Cloud, only the file had apparently synced. I say apparently, because the Folder had synced, but wasn't visible.
The reason I know this is because when I deleted the File in Internet Explorer it was then visible in my BT Cloud Deleted items and here's where it gets interesting, when I deleted the China folder in Internet Explorer, it too appeared in the BT Delete items, i,e, it had been synced.
At the top of this message I mentioned that there were two other Folders one of these was a Web Folder that contains a Backup file and the other one is empty. Neither of these are visible in any page currently available to me, but they where pre 1 Dec 2020.
I will send you a suggestion on what to do next, in my next Message

This diagram shows what I understand your Internet Explorer path, C:\Users\Richard\Documents\BT Cloud, contains:
At the top, you have BT Cloud, which contains 6 Folders, but only 4 of these Folders contain the files that are required to be Synced and Backed up.
One of these Folders contains 4 Folders (A to D). These contain duplicated files from 4 of the 6 top Folders, some of which have been amended since 1 Dec 2020.
I’m going to suggest that you should try something quite radical, but I can see no other way forward to correct your syncing issue. You do not have to do it, if you don’t want to.
I suggest that you create a new Folder in Internet Explorer in to which you should COPY and PASTE the bottom 4 Folders (A to D) in there entirety.
Then, go back to the original Internet Explorer Folders (A to D) and (one folder at a time) delete their Files.
After each deletion, go into the BT Cloud client and look in your Deleted items, to see if any files, if any, have been deleted (Note: Deleted item also has a restore option). I suggest that you should completely Purge the Deleted items.
When all files have been deleted, return to the Internet Explorer 4 Folders (A to D) and delete them all. Again, after deleting them, go into the BT Cloud client and look in your Deleted items, to see if any of the 4 Folders (A to D) have been deleted. Again, I suggest that you should completely purge the Deleted items.
Now Power your PC off and on again and return to and start BT Cloud client again to see if there is any progress on Syncing.
Note: before the Back up process can be fully achieved, Syncing between your PC and the BT Cloud client also has to be fully achieved.
If after a reasonable time there I no disenable change to the syncing process, simply return the 4 Folders (A to D) back to their original positions.
