BT Cloud / iMac / Freezing

Hi,

Like many others I have received an email doubling my BT Coud storage.  I'd previously given up on it but the current 1TB of storage is just too generous to ignore.  The trouble is that in the last few weeks of using it I've failed to upload more than 27Gb to the cloud.  The Mac version just isn't working!

First.  I've set my energy saving settings so that the iMac does not sleep.  The screen dims, but the hard drives and processor remain on.  I've set BT Cloud to back up my pictures and home videos libraries.  about 180Gb of data.  I leave the dashboard showing and get on with some other activity elsewhere.  Every half an hour or so I'll nudge the mouse to awaken the screen and see the transfers log.  Normally it will show a file being uploaded and one or two others shoing they have been uploaded "just now".

All fine and dandy.  Except that that isn't always what I see.  Often it says {x} was update 5 hours ago.  If I try and move the dashboard window onto any other screen it just gives me an hourglass (ok that pretty rotating cursor - I'm a Windows guy at heart).

Every couple of hours it just locks up.  No idea why.

Yes..BT Cloud is still no good for us Mac users... I bought an external NAS and use Amazon and Googe phoot backup services.

Re: BT Cloud / iMac / Freezing

I set up a network share on my Mac and xcopy'ed the files onto my old PC.  Then installed Bt Cloud on that.  It took just over two days to backup 119gb.

After weeks of rebooting my Mac every few hours I only ever managed to back up 29gb.

the Mac version is very poor.

Re: BT Cloud / iMac / Freezing

I have the same problem, and have been looking into it, since the BT Cloud app generates masses of logging/debug info which you can see in Console. Here's the first error when it stops syncing and goes into 'freeze mode':

017/11/07 1:15:59:756  [CONTENT CHALLENGE] Failure when querying for content challenge, file = ***hidden***, error = Error Domain=AFNetworkingErrorDomain Code=-1011 "Expected status code in (200-299), got 401" UserInfo={NSLocalizedRecoverySuggestion=<?xml version="1.0" ?><errors xmlns:dvi="http://internal.dv.newbay.com/ns/1.0" xmlns:a="http://alternate.newbay.com/ns/1.0" xmlns="http://dv.newbay.com/ns/1.0"><error code="1048"><message>Full authentication is required to access this resource</message></error></errors>, NSErrorFailingURLKey=https:/btcloud.bt.com/dv/api/user/cafad5e4335c40538cc35fe9af757315/content/query, AFNetworkingOperationFailingURLRequestErrorKey=<NSMutableURLRequest: 0x600000016110> { URL: https:/btcloud.bt.com/dv/api/user/cafad5e4335c40538cc35fe9af757315/content/query, Method POST...

...and from then on it's just logging errors.

So it looks like, since this occurs consistently around 2 hours after the sync starts, that the server requires re-authentication every 2 hours, which the app fails to do.

This should be an easy fix. Anyone from BT care to take this up with the developers?

Re: BT Cloud / iMac / Freezing

possible option might be to install Windows in a virtual machine and back up via network drive. If they have not fixed it I'm guessing they are in no hurry, pesky Mac users filling up their servers !

I still don't really trust BT Cloud since they deleted all my files when I renewed my contract.

Re: BT Cloud / iMac / Freezing

Nearly what I do.  I've shared the data with an old PC and backup from there.

Re: BT Cloud / iMac / Freezing

Hi,

I'm getting the same problem on my iMac. BT Cloud uploads files for a period, then halts/crashes the app. The quit command then doesn't work & the app won't respond to any inputs. The only way to get it going again is a force shutdown, re-start, then sync music etc.

It has taken weeks to upload 800/2500 music tracks due to BT Cloud crashing. I'm about to give up on it altogether.

Help, please, anyone!!!

There is another thread about it, it's a known ongoing problem.
