BT FTTH, NEST Wifi, Managed Switch settings for VLAN

Hi,

I am tried using Nest Wifi directly with the BT ONT (FTTH) router and this is causing drop in speed.

Some research online revealed that this is a VLAN tagging issue and Nest Wifi doesn't support this.

Using the BT router and configuring Nest Wifi as DHCP works but I am expectedly running into

double NAT trouble with this

I purchased  aTP link managed switch to put between the ONT & Nest Wifi as advised on the Nest

Wifi site. However I am struggling with setting up the VLAN settings to make this work.

Any help or signposting would be most appreciated.

Thank you

Re: BT FTTH, NEST Wifi, Managed Switch settings for VLAN

There’s no need for a managed switch - Connect the Nest Internet port directly to the BT ONT and set the Nest Hub up to use pppoe settings

to connect via pppoe you must remove the internet cable from the next router during set-up in advanced settings - The light flashes yellow on the nest router when you do this

you also need the by username and password in the advanced settings for  pppoe

bthomehub@btbroadband.com
anything or blank

Setting up this way got rid of my double Nat issues, let me dump the BT home hub and has been super stable for us

not sure if IPv6 works too well at the moment, but that’s not been an issue for me

Good Luck

Re: BT FTTH, NEST Wifi, Managed Switch settings for VLAN

Thank you. That is how I tried but can't get higher than 20mbps.

Yes IPV6 is a no go too.

I am disappointed that google are marketing the device here considering BT are the biggest ISP in the UK.

Re: BT FTTH, NEST Wifi, Managed Switch settings for VLAN

I had to use a decent cat 6 cable to get my full 300Mbs fibre connection  on the ONT - I was using an old cable that just gave crappy speeds at first and couldn’t believe the difference a decent cable made

I'm having the same issue and Google support have confirmed you need a managed switch

Not found out yet if this resolves the issue.  Just found posts with people unsure on the settings
