We have an Orbi RBK53 in AP mode, the SH2 still acts are the router (in case we have problems) but it's wifi is turned off. There is a lot of fluctuation between devices and speed testers but I'd say comfortably in the 500's/120's for wifi on average. If we had a wifi 6 setup I suspect the speeds could be better.
Hi Sean,
I'm getting exactly the same problem. 900 download, a bit spasmodic, but there. Fixed upload at 50. I have restarted the Smart Hub, but don't want to factory reset as my wife has to work from home and her tech team had to make changes to IP ranges on the hub. I can't use the BT speed test as it says it can't see the SH. I did raise a fault, but it was closed by BT saying I had requested it to be closed, obviously i didn't.
What would you suggest?
Thanks...Paul.
Hi @pmarshal,
Sorry to hear that your upload speeds are being limited to 50mbps.
I've sent you a Private Message with details on how you can get in contact with the mod team and we can look into this for you.
Thanks
Matt
Thanks for the quick response Matt, I have replied. Paul.
@Matt-S Are all these throttling issues generally down to a common problem with the same solution? I think my Smarthub was accessed, and rebooted to be fixed. If settings are being changed will a backup help restore the changed settings if, for whatever reason, they’re lost?
If it helps, I don't have the issue at the moment. I backed up my configuration, factory reset my hub and got the throttling issue.
I restored the configuration and the throttling was gone.
As my line has settled down, my speeds now vary between 700Mbps and 875Mbps. It's VERY sensitive as to which speed tester I use - the BTW tester is too random.
My question is "is that good enough?"
I've never seen anything over 900Mbps, but very conscious that anything is the 800's is almost science fiction compared to what I had before FTTP.
Should I be satisfied or left yearning for >900? 😉
Even on Ookla, there are only a few test servers that can genuinely serve at Gigabit speeds. Try Cloudvider or AI Networks... they normally max out around 900-910 on a good day.
Sorry.. I meant choose either the AI Networks or Cloudvider servers in the Ookla Speedtest app 🙂
