BT Home Hub 4 and Ubuntu 13.10 - no connection

Go to solution

Hi, I have BT Home Hub 4, Windows 7 and Ubuntu 13.10 on my laptop (dualboot). When on Windows 7 everything is okay, wired and WiFi connection. I also connected without any problems using my Nexus 7 tablet.

I cannot connect to Internet using my Ubuntu. I am not good with network setups, so please be patient and very detailed with your answers.

Thank you.

Basic question. Have you enabled networking and wireless networking in Ubuntu? Click on the network icon at the top of the screen to enable.

You may also need to install Ubuntu drivers for the wireless network card.

Ah, you didn't say that before, thought it had never worked. OK, are you using a home hub? If so the IP address range might be different to Virgin. Go to System tools > Administration >Network tools where you will find a dropdown list of network devices (loopback, ethernet interface and wireless) Select ethernet interface and click on configure. This will open another window, select wired and wired connection (x) click edit and tick box connect automatcally, save and repeat for wireless. Report back any problems

For the wirelss interface, you will also need to enter the WPA passkey
