BT Home Hub 5 drop out and speed problems

My new infinity broadband and hub worked fine, and at the correct speed, for the first few months. In the last two weeks it has started losing it's connection to the broadband every hour or so. Pressing the on/off switch or restart button does not seem to achieve anything. After a few minutes it comes back on of it's own accord. Also the speed has dropped from 35mb to around 7mb. I have a PC and  Mac and both show the same speed so I don't think it can be a computer problem. Neither computer has been altered so is unlikely to be the cause.

I am totally non technical so please help before it drives me mad! Thanks
