I notice that my BT Home Hub 5 often automatically selects a 5GHz channel that is used by my neighbours' routers. I manually switch the 5GHz channel to Channel 64 (the one not used by anybody in the vicinity), apply, save settings. In a few days it switches the 5GHz channel back to auto and picks a congested channel again.
Why does BT Home Hub 5 keep forgetting my 5GHz channel setting and revert to auto please?
Try disabling "Smart Wireless"
Thanks for your quick reply Keith.
Smart Wireless option seems to coincide with Channel Automatic (see the attached screenshot).
Is there another place where Smart Wireless should be disabled?
By manually selecting a channel, you have turned smart wireless off. Remember to select "Apply".

That is exactly what I do. I does change the channel, I verify it in the Wifi scanner on my phone.
Then I check the router in a day or two and it reverted to Channel Automatic again. The router was powered all the time, no reboot happened.
I guess that is a bug in BT Home Hub 5 software.
How do I get this bug fixed please?
it is not all that common from forum posts
phone up BT on 151 and ask for replacement as yours is faulty and as long as you still are in a fixed term contract it should be free
It looks to be a software issue, so that replacing the hardware won't fix the issue. My Home Hub 5 has worked well for 7 years now, it just keeps reverting my 5GHz channel to Automatic.
How do I raise this bug with the developers of Home Hub 5 software please?
(a) I doubt it is a software issue as there would be many more reports of the problem.
(b) As the hub 5 is now obsolete/obsolescent, I doubt anything would get fixed anyway.
(c) There is no direct way of making the developers aware of any problems.
(d) It could well be a hardware problem with your hub
