For several weeks I have been connecting and disconnecting my connection, using the main hub, Wi-Fi and Wi-Fi with Fon. And I am forever having BT Desktop Help leaping onto my screen to tell me what I already know -- I have no connection. On top of that I am forever obeying its instructions to turn off and turn on my hub and modem, often several times a day.
It does not matter which of my 5 functioning computers I use (XP Win7 and Win8).
I have not seen more than 30 seconds of BBC iplayer in weeks.
Why am I paying for this rubbish?
Since this problem is present no matter which computer I am using, I must assume that the problem I have is somewhere outside my house, and I have no control over it at all.
The hub and mobile cannot be faulty, as I was able to download 2gb in a minute or two a week ago.
I have used a Speed Checker this afternoon, and my download was consistently less than 1mbps for a period of about an hour. Sometimes the test does not even complete. Ookla speed tester is now showing a speed of 5mbps, but I still cannot watch BBC iPlayer without the stream breaking every few seconds. It is a nightmare trying to access and work my webmail account. I just do not have the time to wait for 20 seconds whilst an unwanted email is deleted before moving onto the next one.
I have been dissatisfied with BT Infinity since it was installed about three years ago.
and use this speed tester then carry out the further diagnostics and post back a screen shot of all the results including your IP profile for up and down. This test must be done with a wired connection.
