Re: BT Infinity - Speed Test Results

Run a speedtest from a wired pc at http://speedtester.bt.com/ and post the result. This will show an accurate connection speed and your IP profile. Wireless will only show the slowest point which can well be your home network.

Re: BT Infinity - Speed Test Results

I have tracked my speed throughout the day (see below) and it seemed to be okay up to the evening, since when the speed has dropped and continued to remain low - although it has been lower.

Any help of explaining what the issue could be, and advice of a potential solution would be much appreciated.

Re: BT Infinity - Speed Test Results

Can you confirm that you used a wired connection please?

Re: BT Infinity - Speed Test Results

Only the last 2 readings were using the Ethernet cable - earlier ones were wireless. I get the varying speeds in both a wired and wifi environment (just a coincidence that this time that the low speeds were recorded after switching to a wired connection - I just ran another test (wired) and it was back up to the earlier levels.

Re: BT Infinity - Speed Test Results

You have eliminated the possibility that it was the wireless network so you certainly appear to have an issue with the Infinity speeds. Your IP profile is on the maximum which should rule out an issue with your line. Speeds do tend to fall during the evening as more people are using the system and some exchanges have congestion issues Poplar springs to mind. BT do have plenty pf backhaul capacity but some exchanges are nearing capacity.

You can try calling support but it is unlikely they can do anything if I am right. Anybody else got any theories?

Re: BT Infinity - Speed Test Results

Interesting to see that one of the posts here say that speedtest.net gives similar results to the bt speed tester. I've just had BT Inifinity installed (nearly 10 days so looking forward to phoning support - not!). I get dramatically different results between the bt speed tester and speedtest.net.

The BT one will give me an upload speed of about 25Mbps whereas speedtest shows values in the range 0.5Mbs to 6Mbps. Usually my download speed is shown as being less than my upload!

I'm sure BT are going to claim that this is just congestion on the internet - but I was getting consistently about 3.5Mbps on talk talk and could stream iplayer in Hi-Def; something I cannot do with BT.

Really want to cancel BT infinity having seen what it's not capable of and reading all the bad press here. But that's gonna cost me the best part of £200. Doesn't seem right.

(I'm also not happy that any contact I had with BT whilst trying to decide between Sky and BT was UK based - now that I'm signed up I get shipped out to India).
