OK. Here are the connection stats from the modem using the Master Socket and after a reboot. No change in Downstream rate at all.
With respect, £25Bn is chicken feed for an investment in national infrastructure and that fibre will light up for a very, very long time into the future. Installing fibre infrastructure is not rocket science as B4RN have shown and why expect only BT Openreach to do it?
There is plenty of dark fibre in the ground already or the ducting in place: the issue is the "last mile" to homes and premises.
Remember North Sea Gas conversion ? That was achieved in a decade, to say nothing of domestic and industrial electrical supply in the 1920's and 30's. If we don't start on the journey we will never get to the destination.
The amount of BT Openreach time and money spent keeping their old copper networks working must be huge just as trying to use an old 1950's banger as a modern vehcile is.
Finally, BT Openreach offer FTTH infrastructure for medium to large size residential developments - they have a whole department dedicated to it, but the mass house builders are so fixed on building on the cheap and flogging for as much as they can that few have taken it up.
If you want a laugh visit a house building Site/Sales Office operated by any of the big house builders and ask them what broadband is available: they will not have a clue or will often tell you that FTTC is FTTH

Anyway, after much huffing and puffing with BT I now have BT Infinity 2 for £23 a month as a gesture to the fact that the line even in a clean state only performs just above the Downstrean Handback Threshhold and their advertised Downstream minimum line rate of 54Mbps - and BTW they insist that the rate your modem synchs at - in my case 56313 kbps (56.3Mbps) and not the actual Downstrean Performance you see with the BT Wholesale line rate tester and my SamKnows monitoring whcih shows the line settled at 52.3Mbps Downstream.
They are quite correct. Your sync rate includes transmission overheads, your actual throughput is minus these.
No they cancelled the OpenReach appointment on me as they claim that since the line synched at 56313kbps (56Mbps) which is above the minimum guaranteed rate of in the contract 54Mbps that it was no longer needed as they are under no obligation to investigate the line if it is clean but not reaching the 59Mbps Minimum for VDSL Range A in the BT Wholesale Checker as these figures are "only estimates" made by BT Wholesale.
I must say that the Advertising Standards Authority out to take a close look (again) at the figures BT and other ISPs are presenting to customers. It should be made clear that they are only contractually obliged to provide the Minimum Gauranteed rates that they provide and that this realtes to the synched speed at the physical layer and not the Downstrean performance at the appliction layer that the consumer sees: in my case 52Mbps as against the synch of 56Mbps.
