BT Infinity frustration with availability

I moved into my current brand new house in August 2013 having had Virgin superfast in my old house. Unfortunately there was no superfast in my new development area despite all the promises that were being made. The developers blamed the council, who blamed BT, who blamed the developers etc etc. The website suggested that Infinity was going to be available in my area between Sep and Dec 2013 so we decided to have BT installed and wait a couple of months. Sep to Dec 2013 changed from Jan to May 2014 then Jun to Aug and now Sep to Dec. It is clearly nonsense and I feel I have been duped. When I raised it with BT several times I am told that the installation is out with their control; why then publish these dates when they are only there to dupe people like me. I need fast broadband for my job but this is getting beyond a joke. Can anyone help shed any light on why we are constantly being lied to

Re: BT Infinity frustration with availability

the installation of fibre is nothing to do with your ISP Bt Retail but is controlled by openreach - although a BT group company there is no preferential information given to your ISP.  you would have obtained the same estimated dates regardless of ISP you chose.

The dates were given in good faith and you were not misled by your ISP

Re: BT Infinity frustration with availability

Thank you for your quick reply, it is much appreciated. However, the only place where I can find any information on when I will be able to get Infinity is on the website. There should at least be a caveat placed on the estimated dates. This is all customers have to go on to make their decision and to keep pushing dates back is clearly misleading regardless of the faith intended or otherwise. I have gone beyond my 12 month contract now and I would rather have internet from a trustworthy company even if it means I don't get anything quicker.

that is up to you but 12 months ago all the ISPs would have told you exactly the same timescale as they use the same data and rely on openreach

Re: BT Infinity frustration with availability

That is my point, everyone has to rely on Openreach, a BT company. It is the information they are putting out there that is misleading. To have the dates continue to be pushed back by over a year clearly shows that they have actually no idea when it will come to my area. I know there is absolutely nothing I can do about it and I'm just massively frustrated and actually quite angry; particularly as my line rental is about to go up!!

Re: BT Infinity frustration with availability

that is up to you but 12 months ago all the ISPs would have told you exactly the same timescale as they use the same data and rely on openreach  All the ISPs would have had the same information available.  Some might have been more helpful explaining that the figures were only estimates, that they were outside their control, and that they were well known to be frequently wildly wrong.  Our estimates were shifted back three months every three months for over a year before we got FTTC, and that is far from unusual.

you won't get fibre any quicker regardless of ISP  That is true; except for Virgin if you are in their catchment, and some very specialist nich providers.

Re: BT Infinity frustration with availability

As it's for your job, you need BT business, not home, the home T's & C's say for home use not business.

My mate was in same situation to work from home, no Infinity, but ordered BT business who installed a new line from a cabinet just outside his new build estate and he got Infinity (and a business line). Job done.

2 years later when the estate developers, bothered to reply to BT/Openreach about installing an Infinity cabinet on the estate (which is why it was taking so long), a new cabinet was installed and Infinity home became available to all.

Re: BT Infinity frustration with availability

Really? Infinity package becomes available in ur area and not a peep from BT about it.

No but you would have thought that they would have sent a letter out or something. But not a peep.
