I have recently upgraded from standard broadband to infinity 2. When ordering infinity I asked the advisor whether it would work okay with TP homeplugs, she advised me it would (and she would eat her hat if I did not notice improvement!)
Having researched it since speaking to her this is not necessarily the case it seems the speed from the homeplugs will be roughly half the speed from the router. Okay, this is fine it's not what I was told but should still be a lot better than standard so I'm happy to accept it. But this does not seem to be the case. If connected direct to the hub I am receiving infinity speeds, but if connected through a homeplug (with the same set up I had for standard broadband) the download speed is now lower than it was for standard broadband, but there is an improvement with the upload.
I can not change to a wired connection. Are there any other options? Is it possible the hub is faulty? I am currently using a home hub 5 but still have my homehub 4 that I can test, but my understanding is that with the 4 I need additional kit?
the Hh4 will not connect direct to the master socket as you need to use an openreach modem if you are not using hh5 what router are you using?
powerline adapters work fine but a lot depends on the quality of your internal wiring I use TPlink adapter and don't have a problem

I am using the Home Hub 5, before Infinity I was using the Home Hub 4.

I can not see any problems at the exchange, although I can see that BT have logged the fault with my broadband as I contacted them last week regarding the speed issue.
Since I spoke to them I have changed the settings on my Home Hub 5 to allow me to manually select the channel.
was btspeedtester run with a wired conenction direct to the hub?
No, I ran it through the computer that is connected through the homeplug. Unfortunately the Homehub is in a place where I can not also connect a computer which is why I need to use the homeplugs.
it may well be the homeplug/powerline adapter that is the cause of your low speed. if you get engineer visit and that is found to be the cause then you will get billed for £129.99 for callout
