BT Infinity master socket question - old building flat

Go to solution

Hi

I am considering BT Infinity up to 40mbit. I am about to move into a period conversion flat, which is a very old TV cable running into the flat, pictured below.

This then runs to a 'master telphone socket' elsewhere in the flat.

Might the age of this connection cause me problems with BT Infinity?

My next question is: Is it possible to run a telphone cable from the BT Infinity homehub to somewhere else, or does a phone need to be plugged into the homehub directly?

there is no phone connection on the Home Hub3you will be able to connect the phone to the new frontplate that is fitted to the master socket when infinity is installed

You might like to point out your old connection, to the Openreach technician when they come. It looks a bit damp in that area, and they may simply run a new cable to the master socket, as it looks like a fault liability.

Does anyone know what that little box is?

Hi

It's just a straight forward connection box between the outdoor cable and the internal wiring.

I have attached a drawing (a bit of a generic cover all) which may help. The installer will fit a new Master Socket to replace the old one.

Hope this helps rather than confuses.

Michael
