BT Infinity set up LAN X2

Go to solution

Hi,

I had the BT infinity Modem and HH4 installed today and everything is working fine.

I noticed that there are 2 Lan sockets on the Modem and I was wondering if I could plug in another router in to the Lan 2 socket.?

Thanks Keith

The answer is no.

Why would you want to do that anyway?

You only have one public IP address allocated, so a totally separate network would not be possible.

You can of course add additional ports to the home hub.

If you wanted a totally separate "Guest" network, then you would have to use a different router, like one of the Netgear range, that provide this facility.

A partial solution is to use a "smart" Ethernet switch, which has port based VLANs, which will isolate network segments.

One thing is a real shame is that the BT HH4 is does not have the latest wireless technology i.e 802.11ac which I understand is considerably faster than the 802.11n.

Keith

The HH5 doesn't need an openreach modem, its built in.

The supplied Openreach modem is actually a fully featured modem/router but it is locked down to act as a modem though LAN1 only.

The user manual for the unlocked version is available here http://www.huaweidevice.com/worldwide/technicaIndex.do?method=gotoProductSupport&productId=3019
