BT Internet Censorship - How do we get websites taken off the blacklist?

I've just found out from blocked.org.uk that British Telecom has decided to ban people from visiting a roleplaying website I work on called The Piazza. (Here is the blocked.org.uk report for http://www.thepiazza.org.uk/bb/index.php, for anyone who wants to see how it works.)

I've looked around, but can not find any information about what censorship proceedures BT is using, but the website I work on is not pornographic or illegal and I want it removed from BT's blacklist ASAP.

Does anyone know of a BT page where people can submit requests to get their websites unblocked?

Thanks John46.

I rechecked blocked.org.uk and they say that BT still has the website on their blacklist.

Maybe you have the adult filter turned off for your account. Smiley Frustrated

The Piazza is not any sort of adult website. I want it removed from the blacklist.

Re: BT Internet Censorship - How do we get websites taken off the blacklist?

Hi guys,

We have had a look at this for you, and looking at the blocker checker FAQ’s the tools report is based on a customer who has parental controls “on” and has the settings turned to moderate or strict.  BT’s Moderate setting includes the Social Networking category. Looking at the site you are referring to, this is a forum which is blocked under social networking.

Please see the sites FAQ’s here https://www.blocked.org.uk/faq

The site you are referring to is not automatically blocked by BT, the site is only blocked if a customer has Parental controls “on” and is on a moderate or strict filter level or they have selected Social networking from the custom filter.  If you have the filter on and turned to moderate or strict and still want to see the site you have a  number of options to be able to see this.

  1.  You can select the Light category which does not include the social networking category
  2.  Use the custom filter and select just the categories you want to block (and exclude social networking)
  3.  Add the site to your allowed sites.
  4.  And If you feel this site is incorrectly categorised as social networking, then please visit the FAQ for information on how to raise a re-categorisation query http://bt.custhelp.com/app/answers/detail/a_id/47860/c/346,6679,6684

All the best,

Robbie
