Re: BT Mail excessively slow

I know there are no tabs on the new system, that's one of my complaints.
Allow all images is enabled, they're just not shown.
OK - I think previously there were stars and flags, so again some warning would have been helpful.
Search still gives errors.
I've seen your other reply: thank you but I'm afraid that suggesting that I go back to using a separate client is a workaround that I don't want to do, I would hope and expect that someone from BT takes notice of the problems and fixed them.

Re: BT Mail excessively slow

Hi JillC,

i deleted my history and cookies but when i attempted to use the “Mail” app on my pc found that though it was quicker none of my folders loaded up. I deleted and tried again with the same result.

it is now impossible to work with emails on my pc and I have resorted to my ipad.

It is the correct tool for the job. Web mail was only introduced so that ISPs could sell advertising space. It also allows you to keep control of your emails by backing them up in your back up regime, assuming you have one,  rather than entrusting them 100% to your ISP. That can end in tears as some people have recently found.

It sounds like you have set your "Mail" app on your PC as a POP3 account. Set it up as an IMAP account and it will synchronise with your folders.

Re: BT Mail excessively slow

I think OP means having something like a star or flag to mark emails as 'Urgent'

Re: BT Mail excessively slow

I've used webmail for at least the last 15 years: I'd not lost a single message until Friday when this new version was introduced, I don't worry about email backup or software updates - that's what I pay BT for - and if I'm travelling I can use any PC and not just my phone to access mail. So while you may think it's purely an advertising vehicle, I have found it useful, productive and reliable - until now.

I remain hopeful that BT will respond to the issues raised here, parricularly the performance problems - if only because, according to your theory, they'll want to keep their advertisers happy!

Re: BT Mail excessively slow

I would suggest that if you think your email is 100% safe with any ISP you are very trusting.  For instance if you have been with BT for 15 years there is possibility that your email account was hacked when Yahoo was hacked in 2014.

You can check here if any of your email accounts have been compromised.

https://haveibeenpwned.com/

I agree that webmail can have its uses when away from home if you are using a trusted PC  but it is in my opinion safer to use your phone's email client/app.

If you search this forum and no doubt other ISPs forums you will find that ISPs do lose peoples emails and they can not restore them.

Each to their own if you are prepared to blindly trust your ISP and make no back up of your email that is of course your choice.

Re: BT Mail excessively slow

I think people would like their email to run smoothly and efficiently before they can apply all the security they deem necessary.

Re: BT Mail excessively slow

I joined this discussion to raise concerns over BT's new software which appears to me to be poorly designed, tested and implemented: I hope that BT registers everyone's comments and does something about it. Your thoughts on my decisions, however, form no part of that so I'll leave the discussion now.

If you do not want comments about what you posted regarding using an email client perhaps you should not have opened a discussion  about emails clients on this thread.

As regards your concerns regarding "BT's new software"  have a look at this thread which has been running since Dec 2018 when the new email webpage was introduced  and see if there is anything new you can add to what has already been posted.
