I’ve been having issues with my mail since BT moved from Yahoo. Mail has not synchronised and finally I decided to get BT to help to resolve the problem, what a disappointment, first line support did not appear to have any detailed knowledge. So I have tried to identify the problem.
The BT mail account settings has the following characteristics:-
IMAP & SSL
When recreating my email account on my iPad there are pull down options for Google & AOL etc but not BT Mail. So I selected the “Other” option. The only options (IOS 14.4.2) are then to enter your email address and password and I think the account is setup as a POP account. I wanted to know how to create an email account with IMAP?
Thanks in advance.
You will first have to delete the account from the iPad. When setting it up manually using the 'Other' options you need to use the following details.
Incoming server mail.btinternet.com Port 993 SSL selected
Outgoing server mail.btinternet.com Port 465 SSL selected plain authentication required.
Okay. After you complete the page with email address and password, doesn't the next page have two tabs - one imap and one pop?
Thanks for the swift reply.
No I don’t get the second page option.
I’ve just deleted the account again. On the Other mail option once I have enter preferred name, email address and password the account is created and then I have the summary page of my email accounts.
So try choosing the yahoo option; see what happens.
Tried using Yahoo and not surprising the email address was unrecognised. I tried the Exchange option as well but it requested more detail that I have (Domain and username).
If you choose 'Other' it shouldn't try to complete anything automatically, it should allow you to enter everything manually. Is there a 'Manual' option as well as 'Other'?
So just to be clear. Remove the existing BT mail account from device you are having problems with.
Switch both devices off and restart them.
try to install mail account again using "other" option.
BTW do you use BT broadband - so your mail account is "standard"?
Thanks again for your help.
The assumption is that Other is the manual config option. From the information provided in the Other fields the best config is derived somehow.
Has anybody managed to get a BT Mail account on and iPad using IMAP?
Have BT changed their approach disabling IMAP from mail Apps?
