BT NetProtectPlus with McAfee: Google Hijacker

I have an option 2 contract which comes with BT NetProtect.

For the past week I have been afflicted by a Google Hijacker.

My google queries get diverted to sites I didn't ask for, such as Yell.com

Ihavenet.com is one of the sites involved, but there are others.

I have run full McAfee scan several times, but it doesn't seem to recognise the existence of this virus.

Anyone got any ideas of what to do.?

I use XP

Re: BT NetProtectPlus with McAfee: Google Hijacker

Hi pe58 and welcome

Install a program called Malwarebytes.

Note that it now appears to be a trial version with lots of extras:(, but will help. Run it and let it find the junk that BTNP can't remove.

Then if you don't like the extras it now comes with, simply uninstall it after you've finished with it.

DS: I have tried Malwarebytes.  It picked up 3 infections I wasn't aware of [Pub.Adbundle], but didn't detect my hijacker.  Thanks anyway pe58

Sorry to hijack your thread pe58 but my post with the link has been removed with no explanation - bit unprofessional.

Re: BT NetProtectPlus with McAfee: Google Hijacker

@Catcher, I noticed that too:o

(for any future readers, it was just another browser. I've used it myself on and off for years, but guess the link broke a forum rule).

@pe58, not saying you should try any of this but this (the hijacker) has been removed back in 2010, so it's probably worth a read.

http://www.geekstogo.com/forum/topic/278245-google-hijacker-removal-solved/

and a forum thread on the removal

http://www.geekstogo.com/forum/topic/267407-how-to-fix-google-redirects/

should these links go, simply search for Google Hijacker - it's all there;)
