Some noob questions!
Is it possible to have internet access where I connect a BT SH2 (from LAN port) into a network switch (say a 24 port) and then connect other ethernet cables into the switch?
If so, would the download/upload speed of those devices connected to the switch be affected in anyway given the switch connects to just one LAN port on the back of the SH2?

No problem with that arrangement, provided you use a gigabit capable switch. A single LAN port on the home hub can handle the full speed, provided other LAN ports are not using some of the overall bandwidth.
Obviously, any bandwidth is going to be shared between all devices.
