BT Smart Hub 2, symbol?

Go to solution

So I've been having issues with connectivity on my Playstation 4 for awhile now, it will obtain the IP address of the router but not receive internet. Basically meaning it can find the router but the router won't let it access the internet. Sometimes it works fine and there is no issues, other time it has disconnected me and given the "obtained IP address but no internet" thing. I checked the gateway and there is a symbol on the device label for my Playstation 4, which I've never noticed before.

EDIT: Forgot to mention, the symbol I am referring to is the little blue square with the stop sign in it.

Can somebody tell me what the symbol means, and/or how to maybe stop the issue I'm having?

Hi @temple1997

Welcome to the Community.

The Smart Hub has an explanation for it at the top of the 'My Network' Page:

So, yes. It looks like your PS4 has Access Control applied to it, which doesn't happen automatically.

You could Factory Default your Hub or click the device and change the 'BT Access Control' settings.

Thanks

Re: BT Smart Hub 2, symbol?

Hi, My PC has been having the same issue and for 3-4 weeks i have been trying to rectify it with no luck from BT tech help. The access control symbol goes away when i factory reset for about 10 minutes, and then cuts my internet and the symbol comes back. There is no way that i can remove it through the smart hub manager. Its been really frustrating as i cant play any online games for more than 10 minutes before it dissconnects. No one else seems to know what im talking about when i explain it to the BT techs.

I could really do with some help on how to get rid of the "access control" symbol as im sure that is what is causing my random dissconnections.

In the technical log of the smart hub manager, it says that "A timed pause has been put onto my PC" with the times it gets paused for. Its only me and my partner in the house and we dont have access or parental controls turned on. So why does this access control symbol keep coming back and randomly pausing my internet. Then resuming it again 2-3 minutes later.

Can anyone help? Thanks

Lewis

Try a factory reset of the hub. If it isn't stopping you doing anything, just ignore it, the hub network list is a dog's breakfast anyway.
