Hi, I have a BT Smart Hub 6. What colour BT WIFI Discs are compatible?

Or can I turn the SH6 into just a modem/bridge and purchase a 3rd party WiFi mesh system?

Only 2 more sleeps and my speed will be faster than 7 Mbps. 😀 Thanks in advance..

If you have the original Smart hub 6, then its the white Whole Home Discs that are compatible.

The SH6 cannot be operated in the modem/bridge mode, you would have to buy a separate modem if you want to use a 3rd party wireless mesh.

It looks like you have FTTP  (Fibre To The Premises) as the hub you have, has a WAN port, is that correct?

I have ordered BT Superfast Fibre Unlimited (50 down and 10up) . My telegraph pole is 100 yards away.

It looks like a normal smart hub, but its odd that it also has a WAN port as well, as I would have expected four LAN ports, unless of course BT are sending those out now, perhaps some surplus stock?

All it means is that you only have three LAN ports instead of four.

At least it has the DSL (broadband) connection, so you should be fine.

I am very grateful for your assistance. White discs it is then.  

However I note that the discs come  in different speeds, Wi-Fi AC2600 or AC 1200. I'm guessing the 1200 will be ok for 4K tv and a bit of light gaming? 

Sorry to  a pain, but it does get confusing.

Personally, I would not buy any extra hardware until you have checked the coverage you are getting from the home hub.

I would not be inclined to use any form of wireless connection for gaming, but instead, use a direct Ethernet connection, or broadband extenders (powerline adapters). Wireless will introduce latency, due to interference from other wireless networks.

They are a much cheaper option, and do not rely on a wireless backhaul connection.

The same goes for the TV, Ethernet connection first, then powerline adapters if the cable run is too long. Smart TVs do have an Ethernet  (LAN) port.
