BT Sport HD able to access on app but not on Youview box?

Hello,

So I can access BT Sport HD on the BT Sport App on my smart TV, however BT told me that I needed the Youview Box to make it more easily accessible. Now, it says I have to pay an extra £5 per month to access BT Sport HD on my box, but why would I pay for that when I can access it on my TV without the need for the box? Does anyone know if I can access BT Sport HD on my Youview Box without paying the £5 per month, because it seems like BT have given me the Youview Box for absolutely no reason.

Hi @Confusedtvuser welcome to the community and thanks for posting, the BT Sport HD pack is a chargeable add on if you want that service on the Youview box it needs to be ordered. Were you previously paying for the BT Sport monthly pass or app-only access?

The £5 HD add-on gives you the ability to record in HD, (plus you also get AMC in HD), through the box's EPG. It's also worth remembering that as BT use multicast to stream through the Youview box, you will get as near live as possible picture. (ie everybody will get the same picture at the same time, as you get with broadcast TV with multicast). Whereas streaming through the app with unicast will result in a time delay, so you will probably get a later, or earlier, picture than your next door neighbour.
