BT TV Box has stopped recording either from Scheduled Recordings or the Record button

Has anyone else had a problem with BT TV not recording?  Our Humax DTRT2100 normally works fine, but we have had a few instances recently of items appearing on the menu, but "Failed to Record" and just assumed there had been an interruption in the signal or something, but since 7th December, no scheduled recordings have been recorded and they are gradually just disappearing from the scheduled recordings list.  The programmes appear on the Guide with R next to them, suggesting they are recording, but are not appearing at all.

I am reluctant to try a full factory reset as I don't want to lose recordings that have already been made if I can possibly avoid it, but have already tried Software Update and Factory Reset without deleting existing settings, but none of this has made any differece.

Pressing the Record button on the remote also doesn't work.  It lights up blue to suggest the message is being sent, but nothing happens.

Pressing Record on the box itself also has no affect.

Some exisitng recordings have been deleted so the box now has over 20% space showing, so storage doesn't seem to be the issue and we don't have any problems with the signal for watching the tv.

Any ideas what else to try as this is very frustrating, escpecially now we are coming to the time of year when we tend to record more than usual for watching later?

Hi @BeAnAdventurer, welcome to the community and thanks for posting, I'm very sorry to see that your recordings are not working. It sounds like the hard drive in the box is failing or has failed and the only definitive way to check that would be to do a full reset deleting the recordings. I appreciate this is not ideal if there are recordings that still have to be watched. This is the last thing that we can recommend trying before a replacement can be arranged.

I have already tried the Factory Reset without deleting recordings and Internet/USB Reset without deleting recordings  and it has made no difference, so really feel like I'm a bit stuck at the moment and, from similar posts by others in the past, have not found any where when it got to this stage, a full Factory Reset made any difference and they just lost everything anyway, which makes me very reluctant to try if there is no possible way of saving existing recordings until later.  There are things coming up for Christmas that I would like to see, but don't want to delete everything I already have as not all of it is still available on catch up or other sources, so maybe I just need to forget about trying to record anything this Christmas and rely on catchup until there is time for the family to work through the things they have saved to watch later.  Not ideal, but it doesn't look like we have much option.  It has been such a different year this year anyway that one more thing to add to the list is probably not the end of the world, all things considered.

It's more than likely that the index structure has got corrupted for which the only solution is a full reset deleting recordings. This is not an unheard situation I'm afraid.

If playback of existing recordings is fine then it's unlikely to be the HDD itself failing, that being the only bit of good news.

If the drive was failing then it is possible to clone it to a replacement drive keeping your recordings in place  but that I doubt is the case.

Thanks anyway, will just have to manage with alternative options for TV until the existing recordings are worked through before trying the full Factory Reset option, but at least that has helped me make the decision not to look into changing my BT TV package for the time being and just try to watch Live where possible, or on catch up, or use one of the other options we have access to.  It's not the end ofthe world, all things considered.

Hi, we have had the exact same issue. I ended up logging a call with BT this morning. The tried a soft and a factory reset and neither worked. I have an engineer coming out in Friday to attempt to resolve or change the box

Hope you got sorted.  I've resisted the factory reset so far as I haven't read any comments from anyone where this has worked, so I'm trying to catch up on the things I had already recorded first.  At least in the good old days you could save things to video or dvd to watch back later or save things like news clips of something that was relevant and couldn't easily be found on catch up rather than losing everything altogether!

Hi, all sorted now after a visit from BT engineer.  I lost everything that was recorded. Catch up it is for me
