BT Whole Home Wifi Mesh possible to extend WiFi with more than one disk wired to router?

Go to solution

Hi there, my first post here but I'm going in at the deep end.
Made some diagrams which I hope will make my question easier to understand.

I have 5 BT Mesh disks that are mostly configurated nicely so our house (old farmhouse so thick walls) has full WiFi throughout but I'm having trouble getting WiFi into the garage.  I recently purchased two of the disks thinking I could put one either side of the walls to transmit the signal from inside the house in my workshop out to the garage but because of thick exterior walls the signal in the garage is still less than useful.  It works now but not enough to run streaming video services.

 Key:
Blue - Ethernet Cable
Green - Wireless/Mesh
Red - Low Signal Wireless

Current Arrangement:

My thoughts are that I could probably run a cable from the switch in my workshop out to the garage but I don't know if two of the mesh disks can be wired in at once and still maintain the same WiFi network throughout the property.  This is the arrangement I am considering but don't want to go to the effort of installing more cable unless I know it will work.

Potential Arrangement:

So can anyone who knows let me know if it is possible to connect two of the disks with cable and thus increase the range of the WiFi network?  Cheers!

Hi @oursoul, yes that should work. More than 1 discs can be connected to the router with Ethernet (including via a switch).

Many on this forum have a similar configuration working as you plan.

If it doesn't work straight away, it could be something to do with the switch itself. Come back on this forum and someone should be able to help.

Allo Baz,

Sorry I couldn't tell you as I wasn't able to drill a hole long enough to get into the garage!

I settled for just putting a disk on each side of the wall and a connection just about worked enough for streaming media etc.

Cheers and good luck!
Liam
