BT Yahoo Mail and IMAP configuration in Outlook 2016

I have eventually been able to set up one of my BT Yahoo email addresses using IMAP rather than POP3. All seems to be working ok except:

If I try to delete a sub folder of Inbox from within Outlook 2016 it immediately recreates itself again

If I try to rename a sub folder of Inbox from within Outlook 2016 it resets back to the original name

The only way I can delete or rename a folder is to do it from the webmail side.

Is this the correct behaviour?

Deleting individual emails works fine from either Outlook 2016 or webmail and reflects correctly in the other.

I can add a new subfolder of Inbox within Outlook 2016 and it is reflected in webmail.

Re: BT Yahoo Mail and IMAP configuration in Outlook 2016

Haven't got Outlook 2016 and only POP3 accounts on Outlook 2010, but in Windows Live Mail, I can create and delete subfolders on an IMAP account with no problem. Which would suggest it is possibly a quirk of Outlook 2016.

Is the IMAP account you are using with Windows Live Mail a BT Yahoo email address? If it is what settings are you using please?

Yes. Port 993 SSL selected. Store special folders on IMAP server ticked.

Re: BT Yahoo Mail and IMAP configuration in Outlook 2016

Just created a test IMAP account in Outlook 2010 and can create and delete sub-folders of the Inbox ok. I used imap.mail.yahoo.com as the incoming server, might be worth giving that a try instead of mail.btinternet.com. Although the server I use on WLM is mail.btinternet.com

Thank you - What about the SMTP outgoing server port and encryption type?
