BT Yahoo Mail - big problem on 5th September

Go to solution

Hi Daniel - yes, the problem did fix itself on the 6th, but then it came back again on 9th September, and it hasn’t yet been resolved.  I can send and receive emails on the BT Yahoo server, but they are not downloading automatically to either my iPhone or Outlook on my desktop.  Obviously I can’t send either from phone or desktop.  I have spoken BT tech Experts (for whom I have the greatest respect) and was told the best thing to do was nothing, and expect the problem to resolve itself again.  I believe the problem is only affecting a relatively small number of people now, so I am just unlucky, but I really would like to know what is being done and when i can expect normal service to return.

Re: BT Yahoo Mail - big problem on 5th September

Hi Neil - thanks for the message. I called Tech Experts again and while talking to them found I could send mail from both phone and desktop, but still could not retrieve messages. The BT email team called me and told me to delete the account and reinstall. I did that and it worked for my phone, but not for the desktop machine. I thought about it and as I know that sometimes a message can get “stuck” I deleted most of the messages on the server that had already been downloaded when the problem started. That then did work and everything on the server arrived in my Outlook inbox. So yes, sorted, thank you. But it has not been pleasant. It doesn’t help that Yahoo can blame Outlook, which I don’t think has anything to do with it, because the phone doesn’t use Outlook. However, as both phone and desktop are Apple I suppose the easiest thing is to blame Apple. But friends who use Gmail say they never get these problems, so on the whole I think I’ll stick with blaming Yahoo... and just hope it doesn’t happen again.
