BT You view Box Loss of Sound and Intermittent Picture Loss

Hi All,

Have an interesting conundrum

As of yesterday (30th August), we are having intermittent sound and picture problems on our BT Box.

Box is DTR 2110, working ok up until yesterday, box is only 1 year old.

I have rebooted, factory reset (retaining recordings), changed HDMI cable, followed steps for YVM607 as not seeing freeview HD channels ( would appear to be an HD problem), changed resolutions between 720p, 1080i, 1080p (has been running fine on 1080p). Retuned both box and TV

Disconnected box and used the TV direct from aerial , all fine, no probs and can see freeview HD channels, 101 onwards. So TV appears to be all ok, even checked for software updates, none. TV has no storage though.

So tried a new BT you view box, after set up and software update, had same problems.

Both boxes running on 32.23.50 software version.

I'm thinking it a BT Youview box problem, but don't know where to go next.

Any help appreciated

Thanks

Re: BT You view Box Loss of Sound and Intermittent Picture Loss

@Walkster

The tuners on the Youview boxes are quite sensitive & nowhere near as robust as those on TVs. A too strong signal can cause the issues you've been experiencing .

It's possible that there have been some changes on the transmitter you're tuned to and maybe the signal strength has been affected.

Firstly what sort of levels of signal strength & quality do you get on the channels you can receive and

Secondly which transmitter are you tuned to, if you're unsure use http://ukfree.tv  to check. The other website to check is  http://www.digitaluk.co.uk/

You could try retuning the YV box , firstly without the aerial connected and then with it connected, sometimes that can help.

The HD channels are on PSB3 & com 7/8 which are often affect if changes are going on.

Re: BT You view Box Loss of Sound and Intermittent Picture Loss

Hi, signal strength and quality is 100% for example on BBC1, 20(Drama).

We are tuned to Oxford and Buckinghamshire. BBC 1 is Oxford.

Never had any problems like this previously.

If the TV is left to flick in and out over time it settles, but still no HD channels.

This is not acceptable and You view box requires to be sorted.

Re: BT You view Box Loss of Sound and Intermittent Picture Loss

Just checked the HD Freeview channels, showing as 100% strength and quality, but NO picture, but error message of YVM607, and I have tried all the help recommendations under this error code.

Re: BT You view Box Loss of Sound and Intermittent Picture Loss

Hi @Walkster

That software build has been out for the DTR2110  BT retail box for  some time.

Given that you are experiencing issues a second box on the same set up some things to consider

Has there been a recent upgrade on your TV  software - it is possible that the re is a HDMI handshaking issue between the TV and your Youview box(es) ?

Too strong a Freeview signal could be impacting the quality - an attenuator to reduce the signal strength might overcome that.

Interference  caused by the HDMI cable  and aerial cable being in too close a proximity..

Re: BT You view Box Loss of Sound and Intermittent Picture Loss

Thanks for the reply, however checked software for TV and none available.

HDMI is direct between the TV and YV Box, aerial is adjacent, but been like for 3 years with no problem.

Tried changing HDMI cable and alternative HDMI port, but didn't work.

Really head scratching to know where to go next and why's its just suddenly happened as not changed anything.

Re: BT You view Box Loss of Sound and Intermittent Picture Loss

Just switched off TV and YV Box, then

Switch TV back on, once on

Switched YV Box on, then

Removed both ends of HDMI cable, then

Reinserted the HDMI connections

Let the box boot up until TV channels on

Free view HD channels, eg 101 onwards now working

Only time will tell if its ok, and if all works properly tomorrow morning.

Thanks for the feedback and replies.

Re: BT You view Box Loss of Sound and Intermittent Picture Loss

Try changing the YouView box HDMI output resolution. If its set to 1080p then set it to 1080i, as that can often sort out losses of the HDMI link due to timing issues.
