From what i read so far
BT and Sky have been awarded the following Premier League UK live broadcasting rights for seasons 2019/20-2021/22:
- BT Sport: Package A
- Sky Sports: Packages B, C, D, E
Yep, time to cancel.
Fewer games and wait for the "open your wallet and repeat after me help yourself" statement from BT.
Now that all BT live games will kick off at 12:30pm on a Saturday I doubt I'll see any of them.
Unless your own team are playing who wants to ruin a weekend day by watching a football match at midday?
Another 40 games are still to be auctioned off, but these are rubbish packages, as winners will have to screen 10 matches at any one time - ie all matches on a bank holiday, but you can only watch one at once (similar to champions league evenings I guess)…
Currently:
BT pays £7.6m per match, and
Sky pays £11m per match.
The new deal means that:
BT pays £9.2m per match, and
Sky pays £9.3m per match.
So BT are paying more, for less, and Sky will have the first choice match every weekend, and half of the second choice matches. BT will have some second choice matches, and some fifth choice.
BT have messed this up a lot. Sky are the big winners here, paying a lot less, and getting the very best games.
...and all this will drive another big 6 monthly increase in subscriptions across the board with ZERO benefit for those of us who don't watch any football and have Infinity2 ...just watch and see!
