BT boost engineers.

Long story, but it grinds down to having a much lower sync rate than neighbours immediately around me,example being 10 doors down (stone throwing distance) has a sync of 7616, 25db Downstream attenuation and a 9.5db noise margin compared to my 4288 / 49 / 6.4.

Isp isn`t with BT,althought phone still is,just trying to search for answers as to why being on the same cab (no reason why i shouldn`t be) and the same exchange i have a much lower sync (no extentions, direct into test socket).

Is there a charge for boost engineers? Would one be worth arranging?

Re: BT boost engineers.

You would have to contact your ISP who would arrange the visit and pass on the charges to you.

Re: BT boost engineers.

hi there area variety of reasons for your speed the most obvious is your line attenuation
firrst it is very possible you may not be conected to the same street cab also the route your line takes is obviously longer then that of you neighbours also its condition could be different eg more joints in different cable thickness's there are just a few of the variables if you are by chance on another cab then nothing can be done at all

Re: BT boost engineers.

Hi there

To say your line is obviously a lot longer than your neighbours is over simplifying. Your line may be in a much worse state of repair than your neighbours or your internal wiring may be at fault. Router reported attenuation is not a clear indication of line length. You will see from a fair few posts on this forum that following line repairs or upgrades peoples attenuation can be significantly reduced. Obviously their house has not walked closer to the exchange!

Re: BT boost engineers.

No,their house is still where it was this morning. 😛

No extentions, running via the test socket, tried various combinations of filters/routers so the only conclusion i have is the *problem* if there is one would be outside my property.

Line seems quiet,no hiss so i guess i`d have to risk a charge by requesting a visit?

Re: BT boost engineers.

Do you still have the 448 upstream by any chance?

And I dont know whether it would be any use, but I wrote this article, I only usually give it to people on long lines, but its about tidying up their socket, the lower half of it http://goo.gl/ddnG2

Re: BT boost engineers.

Yea,still on 448 upstream here,my exchange (Shorne - NDSHO) is a tiny one,no LLU/WBC.

Read your guide, pretty much have things like that on my master socket already, that`s what puts me down to guessing the issue lies outside.

Re: BT boost engineers.

It cannot do any harm, to see what the mods think, before that would you mind posting your ADSL stats by following this direct link; http://192.168.1.254/ and go to A-Z (top right) and then ADSL Status and post everything including Line Attenuation, Noise Margin, Connection Speed, Errors etc...

Re: BT boost engineers.

You could certainly ask the mods this is a link to them http://bt.custhelp.com/app/contact_email/c/4951 they reply normally within 72 hours by email or phone as you are not a Bt broadband user I am not sued they can help o n this occasion but do try
