BT e-mail app

Hi all, after many years as a btinternet mail user I recently installed the app on a new phone.  When I open the app it goes straight to the inbox, everything is there and it is working in real time, if I delete an e-mail on this computer then the phone inbox reflects that deletion.  

What I can't find is the normal header that I get on the computer:

so while I can reply to a message already in my inbox, I can't get at the contacts to create a new message

the contacts source in settings is 'Server address book'

any ideas?  I've never used e-mail on a phone before so I can't do any sort of porting from my old phone, there weren't any e-mail contacts on it

I don't use an e-mail client on my computer, always webmail, and I wanted the phone to work in the same way, is that possible?

If you have selected 'server address book' your contacts from webmail should be available on the app.

Yes, if you use a web browser and webmail as you do on your PC but it is very clunky on a phone.

An app is a far superior method, particularly on a phone, however, the BT mail app is the direst I have ever seen.

thanks, out of interest since I posted I did load my e-mail via the Chrome browser and it works just like my computer, which is what I want, and you are right it is 'very clunky' (how polite you are!)

In my ignorance I thought putting an app on the front page of the phone was like putting a shortcut on the computer desktop or a bookmark in the favourites bar. The only way I can get at an e-mail contact is to go via the green 'phone' button and add the contact's email address to their phone record.

Pardon my slowness, a computer user for 60 years and like it!

Why do you think the BT mail app is dire? I have nothing to compare it to so your experience would be enlightening

I don't use the BTMail app so I don't know how the app works but if you are composing a new email, have you tried clicking on the "To"  address bar or if there is a "head" icon click on that. It might then open up your contacts list.

You could use your phone's own email app instead of the BTMail one which I think you will find works much better than the BTMail app which if the posts on this forum are anything to go by wouldn't be hard to beat.

this is all I get when I open the app, no contacts button anywhere even under the menu bars, that just gives me my inbox folders.    Now you come to mention it, there's no 'compose' or 'new mail' option either!   I can only get that by using the green 'phone' button and selecting the contact's email address.  I think I agree it's 'dire'!

Try clicking on the three lines at the left or the three dots at the right.

If you click on the compose button in the bottom right hand corner and start entering characters, suggestions from your contacts will be displayed.

The whole way the BT app works is totally different to any other mail app.

Try downloading Blue Mail from the app store and see how you get on with that.

Have a look at the reviews for the BTMail app then you will know why it is described as dire.

aahhhh! cracked it! I didn't know the square boxy thing was a 'compose' button and yes it works just like you said. thank you a million times. I only bought this phone because my dog cut herself away from home and the vet asked for a photo to assess the injury, I had to get a friend to take the photo and mail it to me then come home to mail it to the vet from my computer. thought it would be helpful if I could do it myself next time she tries to kill herself. I've been using computers for 60 years and get on much better with words than mystifying pictures so thank you so much

I wonder what computer that was?

I thought I was doing well - in 1969, (51 years ago), my employer saw fit to invest in Philips system that used a punch card input and magnetic strip ledger cards. My ex-wife was in fact one of the operators of one of several ledger card readers. I fondly remember the days when punch cards would be digested by the sorting machine - usually at the time we were preparing invoices!

Later 43 years ago with Vax 11/780 but switched a few years later to PCs using IBM and, wait for it, Amstrad 1512 and 1640 computers. Those were the days! Halcyon days? Maybe.
