BT email problem

Go to solution

BT email just asked me to change my email settings- When I logged into MyBT, I was asked to change my login password- no problem, but this password is not accepted by any of my other email devices or my pc email programme. So I can only get email using BT website

Any suggestions? It seems weird for BT to make changes when they know they are unable to provide normal help/assistance-

Been on hold now for almost 2 hours- asking for help

Have you been moved from a BT Yahoo email account?  it's unlikely that BT would ask you to change anything otherwise. Did you login to MyBT using your browser or did you click on a link in the email?

Thanks - I was advised to check my settings- I was not sure how to do this, so tied to log into my BTmail on the BT website from my browser, it said my password was wrong, so I had to change it- No worries, but the problem now is accessing my email from anywhere else other than through the browser

I assume you mean that you can't send or receive emails using an email client?

If so, the chances are that you will need to change the password in your client to match the one you set online. Also, if you have been moved from a BT Yahoo email account, you will need to change the server settings in the client.

Thanks - I wasn't using BT Yahoo, and as far as I know all my settings were ok- so not sure why BT sent me the original email to check things-
I have changed the password to match the new one- it is now working in the web browser email access, (wasn't ) working immediately afterwards-
Possibly these things take time ???? who knows ??

Re: BT email problem

There are many posts on this forum regarding difficulties after changing email passwords and much speculation that changes are not propagated across the system instantly so it's quite possible

Yes - Thanks for your help- it obviously just takes tiiiiiime It took 2 hours on the BT Email, and longer on my iPhone. It remains to be seen how long on mt Microsoft Edge email account. And all probably for no reason whatsoever!!!
